Day 50 (Are we really here?): Junk On The Side of The Road Part One

In DIY, Home Decor on July 9, 2012 at 2:40 am

So today, I made my first attempt at furniture painting. We had a few hangups, like when I noticed the paint dripping down the side (luckily that would be the side not in view) ;), dropping the drawer (luckily that smudge was on the under portion), and not wiping down one section of the sanded portion, oops!  However, these ACCIDENTS luckily occurred in the least visible places…

I found this as I was driving down the road to my parent’s house…2 years ago. I grabbed it (and three other pieces) determined to paint it. Not so. It sat dirty next to my bed for 2 years…until today. Looked up a ‘paint furniture’ tutorial and headed to the hardware store for some paint and primer.

I picked a light mint green color. I think it looks nice.

what was sitting by my bed…

after the sanding…

some primer…

and two coats of paint (no it’s not white).

I’m going to add a third coat and some poly and hope it doesn’t turn to shit with some other accident…fingers crossed!

  1. That’s amazing that you found these at the side of the road. Careful, painting furniture is like crack! Once you start you’ll never stop. Good luck and have fun! Looks great so far!
